Super Sweet Movie Discussion Thread

America's "golden age" of Chinese revenue has largely passed though 2024 saw US films generate a little over a half-a-billion dollars in China. Some US movies rely on foreign markets to turn a profit or break even.

So, that's only on the revenue side. A bunch of Chinese companies own studios or are direct funders of films. SO is are the ME countries as well...

Alto Knights streaming on Prime, others.

Story about the 1950s mob "war" between Vito Genovese and Frank Costello. I like it for old timey NYC language and setting, but that was about it.... Moves along a little slow, and not a ton of action.

Kind of a movie to fit Robert Dinero's age rather than a good take on the whole story. Probably the last true mafia movie to come out on the big screen. It's a dying genre with all the big actors and directors reaching their 80s.

Good if you want to bore yourself for 2 hours listening to old Italians talk gangster.

Just saw Warfare. It was good. Not very long; runtime is ~90 min. See it in a theater for the "sound".

If definitely still has an A24 feel to it (I can't describe what that is exactly - maybe indie film-ish?), but this was the best A24 film I've seen.

My showing was 20% capacity...and that might be generous. So, if you're interested in checking it out, probably do so soon because it may not be in theaters very long.

Aside: The overall theater was packed with people going to see Minecraft. I have no interest in it because I'm not 12 nor do I live in my parents basement, but word is it's a "fun" movie and the people going to see it appeared to be having a good time, dressing up, bringing props, etc. Not my thing at all but glad there's something out there people find entertaining.

Co-Worker's took her son yesterday and had a blast at Minecraft. Also has a bunch of actors in it that would draw our demographic.

I want to see Minecraft about as much as I want to see Snow White. Just not my jam

Now Warfare is a different story, but I'll wait until it's streaming.
Just my $.02, but the way it's filmed and with it's intent, Warfare is worth seeing in the theater. Not sure the experience/effect will be the same streaming, unless you have some killer home theater set up.

The Covenant…just, not good
You know what really threw it for me? Was all of the people marching in formation on the air field to random locations. I can overlook everything else. And I'm not kidding.

Watched it. I enjoyed it. 6.5 dog treats of 10. I never got the chance to serve in Iraq or Afghanistan so know nothing of relationships with interpreters. But the whole kinda reminded me of the dudes who picked up Luttrell and saved his ass and put themselves on the line.

But you guys can tell me...how many enlisted led squad sized elements were hunting IED factories?

A lot of implausible pieces to the storyline and maybe a SGM in a SMU gets that kind of license to walk all over the battle space...but if you remove yourself from what you know and you watch it late at night. It's a decent flick.

But yes the marching formations at airfields in a combat theater was odd.

I thought The Covenant was good. A typical Guy Ritchie film, loaded with stars and lots of action.

4 out of 5 drunk dials...

@ThunderHorse in 2005, Ft Bragg soldiers were forced to get their uniforms dry cleaned and pressed at BIAP. I also saw them doing PT in formations, during the daytime, in the summer!

Never underestimate how retarded the Army can be...

:ROFLMAO:
