Syria Thread

One thing is for sure. Any renewal of hostilities will be bloody and Goring.

Ahmad al-Sharaa is playing the game well....I have to give him credit for reading the tea leaves. Not only is the bounty gone, I am sure the DTO designation will be removed at some point (unless Trump says otherwise). Ahmad al-Sharaa gets credit for taking Assad out, keeping the country running and received foreign aid from us and others....it's a win win right now for him.

Seems like it is time to re-patriate any Syrian who filed an asylum claim...which Europe is also looking at doing.

"Renounced" terrorism...

Yeah, right.
There is a long history of terrorists renouncing terrorism once they are able to attain and maintain power through other means. Gerry Adams of the IRA immediately comes to mind.

This article states that Assad fled to Russia with something like $23M in gold and $2B in cash. I guess "dictating" is good work if you can get it.

Same article says that Assad's wife wants a divorce and to live in the UK.

I guess Mandela renounced terrorism for himself, but he and his party love Hamasistanis.

2B is hundies is only 20 long tons.

23M in gold if at 24kt purity is only 625 pounds, so that is semi-believable.

So, unless he had a bank vault with this pre-shipped, no way he took 2B on that bird.

Ya, I still DGAF about any "reformed" terrorist. They all belong being cheerfully thrown in the wood chipper along with Assad, Gerry Adams, and the rest of the "reformed".

On that other site we don't talk about in public? There's a troll member there whom is crushing on her since forever. I think she's originally from there because of her parents.

DOS already sent Assistant Secretary of State Barbra Leaf to meet the guy.....and they cancelled the bounty.

We'll see how much the Trump WH wants to authorize the New Syrians.

US scraps $10m bounty for arrest of Syria's new leader Sharaa

To be fair, and I truly mean this, we have literally tried EVERYTHING in the ME.

Get attacked by AQ, go to Afghanistan, spend 20 years nation building to let Talibans take back over stronger than ever.

Go to Iraq, once again, nation building, leave after hearts and minds only to come back a few years later. Reletive peace only after destroying several major cities. To be honest Iraq is looking way better nowadays. Not much violence, but still have tens of thousands of ISIS orphans and widows in camps...

Libya; big bombing campaign. Ok, lets step back and let the locals handle it themselves....now its a fractured country, poor as ever, AQ and jihad central.

Yemen; handful of FID, not much else. Place is a wasteland. AQ neighborhood and sometimes the Houthis shoot missiles at us.

Lebanon/Palestine; Israel is laying waste to both sides, non of our business, we know its another 10-15 yeara before they rebuld and do it all over.

Syria...handfull of bombing campaigns, handful of CT/FID missions....well fuck it whats the worse that could happen???

Agree, we have tried everything....but we always see things with our western eyes.

Afghanistan: We failed to see how important the Tribes are....we befriend the Norther Alliance warlords and join them against a common enemy...we win, then put the warlords out of business and try to make the country Democratic...fail.

Iraq: Take out the dictator, again try the democratic route...failure. Iraq is better now because the government is a Shia puppet to Iran.

Libya: We should have never taken out Gaddafi, he was flying right after the 2003 Iraq invasion.

Yemen: Total shit show and not the US fault. Again, fail to see how strong the tribal culture is.

This is only my humble opinion. The US fail to see that a middle eastern country can only be ruled by a very Strong Dictator type government. Democracy is just not in their cards.

The closet country to maybe pull off a democracy was Egypt. When Egypt finally did vote in a leader....well, the people changed their minds and wanted the govt out of power, military had to step in. Not ready for democracy.

Did we actually try everything? How about stepping back and allowing the strongman to rule? There are more burkas in Iraq today because of what we did than before. There's about to be a shit ton more in Syria. We don't do things in the grand strategic interests of the United States. We try to export Freedom and our way of life to people that want nothing to do with our way of life (but are finding ways to invade our country anyways).

There are definitely not more burkas in Iraq now. Iraq is starting to look better than Detroit.

I dont have a list of what terrorists train where, but many of them are here. Doing nothing would be great.

Eh, I think we're seeing different Iraqs. They literally just made it legal for 9 year old girls to be wed.

I heard about the law, but you're not really going to see that anywhere.

As for the rest of the middle east:
It would be great if there weren't jihad groups all over, but reality is it's only a matter of time before they pop up and hit us again.

As long as bad people can see that the "consequence" for their actions is a tacit tolerance for their cause, reparation for their families, and a continuous rebuilding of their homeland - by the very people they wage war against.

The repercussions for their behavior should be so severe that it makes decent people sick to their stomachs.
...as long as we don't offend anyone in the process..
