Honest question- I know nothing about the new pope or his politics (weird thing to say about a pope but whatevs) or how people who are religious are taking it.
Anyone have an opinion on this one?
The closest analogue is Iran’s supreme leader. Head of state and supreme religious authority for most of Shia Islam. As a non-Catholic, I don't care.
Sociologically and anthropologically I find it fascinating. There is no singular leader of the non-Catholic Christian church, the Jewish nation/church, the Muslim church. And he's also the leader of a nation -state. Where else can a state leader must be a man but can be from any other nationality?

That's like asking the Jewish kids to stand in a class at Harvard. No thanks.Honest question- I know nothing about the new pope or his politics (weird thing to say about a pope but whatevs) or how people who are religious are taking it.

This. My thoughts are...isn't God supposed to be the top dog? I'm not questioning anyone and I understand the catholic religion because I have it in my family, but just never could get past this part of it.don't understand a group that worships a guy as the head of the church
Pope is a key part of Catholic structure. But we don't worship him, and we don't also believe that he has a phone line direct to god like Mormons believe their president does. Just do good works, accept Jesus Christ as your savior, and confess your sins. It's not a big thing.Lol ok tight. I don't care about the breathless OuTrAgE from Christian Conservatives, I don't understand a group that worships a guy as the head of the church (I grew up Catholic and never understood the fielty to the Pope), I was joking with the wife about how the new Pope and the mayor of Nairobi have the exact same impact on my life, the way I live it, or anything else.
Odd, don't care, moving on.

Dude, going to Catholic School is probably the thing that made me become an atheist/Non-religious. Going to Tuesday/Thursday Mass during school and then a Presbyterian service with my grandparents on Sunday just made some of the Catholic stuff seem extra weird, which led further to comparisons amongst other sects/religions.Lol ok tight. Potato, potato....Being Catholic is being Christian. Catholicism is not a religion.
