Ukraine - Russia Conflict

Well boys and girls, a real life example of “fuck around and find out”… that said, I can’t help but notice how hard they came down on this kid, when it feels like there have been others who have done similar who got off with much less punishment.

Pentagon leaker Jack Teixeira sentenced to 15 years in prison

A federal judge on Tuesday sentenced Pentagon secrets leaker Jack Teixeira to 15 years in prison.

Teixeria, a 22-year-old Air National Guardsman from Massachusetts, pleaded guilty in March to leaking highly classified military documentsrelated to the war in Ukraine.

Prior to his sentencing on Tuesday, Teixeria spoke to the court and apologized for his actions, saying: "I wanted to say I'm sorry for all the harm that I brought and caused."

"I understand all the responsibility and consequences fall upon my shoulders alone and accept whatever that will bring," he added.

Bradley Manning got a tax-payer funded sex transition as his sentence.

Honestly, I think this is gonna look like the Iran situation. Vlad is gonna agree to something provisional, but then violate it a bunch of times.

This means Trump does something eventually very escalatory because people will start talking that he looks weak against Putin.

The fact the Ukrainians are welcoming the chance for SOMETHING to change says a lot about how much they are willing to gamble at this point.

Not often I agree with Mother Russia, but in this case…

Kremlin says Biden missile decision on Ukraine is reckless — Reuters

The Kremlin said on Monday that any U.S. decision to allow Ukraine to fire American missiles deep into Russia would mean it was directly involved in the conflict, which it accused President Joe Biden's administration of escalating.

Russia has been telling the West for months how it would interpret such a decision, and that it would raise the risk of a confrontation with the U.S.-led NATO alliance.

Here's my problem: if using the rockets is an escalation so major we have to ALLOW the Ukraine to use them, WHY IN THE FUCK DID WE SEND THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE?!

People here just want a war which is one of many reasons why 45 is about to become 47. The average non-MICC Joe doesn't want that which is why they just repudiated the existing administration.

ETA: See below.

Russia downing a Reaper in international airspace wasn't reckless?
Russian jet thumping the F-16 wasn't reckless?
Putin's a bully, and a little pushback can be a good thing.

I'm curious to watch this story develop.
First - I have little faith in anything Ukraine claims as truth - they will tell ANY story if it garners them a few billion dollars more in US currency - and I trust their claims even less if it is the US media reporting on it.

ICBM ?
So what?
If it is a conventional warhead - its just a conventional warhead.
How many Scuds got fired into Israel during the 1st Gulf War?
...how many of those Scuds had scary bombs in their nose?

Wouldn't the stakes be a lot higher if they fired a FROG-7 or even a 152mm artillery shell with a nuclear payload?
Or has the US foreign policy just taken on more of a "vibe" approach to global domination.
...hm - they fired an ICBM - lets just pretend it was a first strike nuclear attack - lets go melt all the snow in Siberia and drown those mother fuckers - I'm vibing baby - lets feel the flow - lets do that war !!

It almost sounds like the type of reporting that is overtly trying to stir up a little bit of global war.
...nah fuck it - lets just do a war

Lets go fuckers lets just do a war - ICBMs - MIRVs - Bottle Rockets - who cares - lets just do a war - it stimulates the economy.

Zelensky: I’ll give up Ukrainian territory to Russia to achieve peace

Zelensky: I’ll give up Ukrainian territory to Russia to achieve peace

...and the start of a quid pro quo...
Zelenskyy suggests 'hot phase' of Ukraine war could end in return for NATO membership if offered - even if seized land isn't returned immediately

A bit more...
Zelenskyy suggested a ceasefire deal could be struck if Ukrainian territory he controls could be taken "under the NATO umbrella" - allowing him to negotiate the return of the rest later "in a diplomatic way".

I mean, we signed the treaty that disarmed them. We should probably armed them with more BLOS weapons by now.

I'm suprised the article left out that there is something Ukraine wants if it doesn't get NATO membership; Nukes back.
This war is going to increase nuclear proliferation amongst smaller countries. Back to the MAD days as the only way to establish security if you aren't a superpower.

Ukraine to NATO is a guarantee for a wider war.

If Ukraine joining NATO guarantees wider war, then we have reached the point where NATO is no longer a deterrent.

Any peace deal without NATO likely sees the Russians rebuild manpower+resources before coming back, provided Putin lives that long.
How long until it's EST/LTU/LVA? Do we back out then or go full bore?

Personally, I'd rather not be involved in any of this; however, I'm not in charge of foriegn policy. So much of our hegemonic strength comes from our military that I don't see how we maintain that without following through on our treaties.
