Game of Thrones thread -

Dear HBO:

Promise me an Arya spinoff and I'll keep HBO for as long as she lasts.
Agreed, or until as long as I last...

So who has green eyes? Overall I'm disappointed with it. The world hasn't seen a good ending of a story since 1945.

Is it odd those aren't HBO shows?
Yeah, here's the funny thing...I used to think HBO was producing stuff by which all others should be measured. They had a couple amazing shows that started with compelling stories and so much promise - GoT and Westworld. But something happened along the way and they turned into the Minnesota Vikings of programming; they just don't know how to finish and fizzle out to close the season. They're not closers. :(

They're not closers

They need someone to come from downtown, maybe from The Americans or Breaking Bad. Some might call it a bailout, I'd prefer a mission of mercy. Maybe setup a competition, first prize? Cadillac El Dorado, second? Steak knives and third? Well, they're writing for a game journalism website. Then again it takes brass balls to be a closer.

D&D read the books, decided Bran would win it all, and told GRRM THAT ending 10-11 years ago? I'm going with bullshit.

No less than 4 people at the final council knew Jon is a straight up legit heir...so they sent him packing over the cripple with zero claim? I'm going with bullshit.

The Unsullied and Dothraki didn't X-out Jon the second they learned he dropped Dany? I'm going with bullshit.

The whole dragon thing this episode? I'm going with bullshit.

Bran, at some point in the last two seasons, made a conscious effort to shape the world in his favor? I'm going with bullshit.

Sansa in all leather? I'm going with...I'll be in my bunk.

I'm not even angry, just disappointed.

This goes into @Ooh-Rah asking me if I just hate watch this thing. I don't.

Now let's get into it. Act I. Outside of the sappy Tyrion bullshit where he went looking for his brother and sister, I'm reminded how much he actually hated his brother. You know, the guy who lied to him about his first wife, someone who actually loved him and wasn't just a whore and then was raped by his father's Soldiers. Although they had basically destroyed Jaime's character arc last episode. Act I I still would have rated this a 90%.

Act II. We get to the BBQ where they have this great council of lords...from the winners side of course. Nice to see dumbass Edmure Tully show up from prison. I guess Daeny did break the wheel, without any explanation and due to a sappy ass fucking speech from Tyrian we're now going to Elect an Absolute Monarchs like some Naboo shit in episode 1, do we get term limits? Oh, hey Bronn, nice to see you climb super fucking high being absolutely useless.

Sansa being like, little bro, fuck it, we're quitting this shit. IRL, Dorn is also like: we outchyea. New Stark Words: No longer bowed and No Longer Broken.

Sappy family scene?

Jon Snow becomes King Beyond The Wall? We kind of knew what was gonna happen in this episode.

Sam goes from Lord of Horn Hill, a wife, and a child...actually two children (one not his), to forging a Maester's chain with only two links? Basically throwing his arc completely out the window.

So, in Ten Years, does Jon Snow come back from Exile to become King, marry Sansa and Bring the Lower North back into the fold?

So glad I was drinking.

They'd better have it in the can already. I'm not waiting a year or more for some bullshit recast story. I'm not sure after all this time if any of the major players in this want to commit year's to a new story, after what they did to finish this chapter off.

This is what I thought of the finale.

No one questioned who the fuck Bronn was and why he got his position? For all practical purposes, some guy shows up out of nowhere and is now master of coin?! Get outta here.

Did John just say "fuck it" and leave his post at Castle Black (not that Castle Black is needed anymore) to run off with the Wildlings...and where are they headed?

Did Bran, who is still worthless as they get, offer to warg into Drogon? If so, why didn't he do it when King's Landing was being scorched? Sure would've saved some trouble and made him at least a little useful. His storyline is all b.s.

After the entire castle is decimated, Jaime and Cersi are under just a single stack of bricks. Again, get outta here with that.

Just like that, all these people/lords and ladies throw away their long held heirarchial beliefs as a result of a 1 minute speech by Tyrion? Really?

I imagine this is what it feels like when some dude gets played by a tranny with a pushup bra...thinks he's looking at a hot chick and "surprise", this is not what you want.

Again, I'm not sure what I really expected from the finale but it felt like a bit of an insult. After all these years of many "emotional" episodes, and I didn't really feel any connection with last episode other than they all just wanted to hurry up and say, "peace out". That's pretty disappointing.

The writers had to end the series and try to tie up all the loose ends in the last two episodes. So they just "mailed it in." It wasn't clever, it wasn't creative and it had more holes in it than Sonny Corleone at the toll booth.

It was a rush job...when clearly the complicated personalities of the characters and their various motives and ambitions demanded a lot more, maybe another season more...to do it justice.

It was fucking boring. Even the sentimentality the writers tried to evoke fell flat. The sad parts weren't sad, the funny parts weren't funny and frankly because they did such a fucking hatchet job I was glad when it was over.

The fucking dragon should've burned everybody, the cast, the writers, the crew, and the entire HBO network.

Your bullshit call is correct. The actual question was "Who is Jon Snow's mother?"

FWIW, GRRM has stated that the Red Wedding was to be the end of any kind of Stark revenge plot (over the killing of Ned), so the entire storyline of Arya returning from Essos, Stark reunion at Winterfell, a Stark on the Iron Throne, etc. is a completely separate direction from what he had intended for the books.

I think D&D knew the books well enough to execute with GRRM's guidance, but shouldn't be trusted with creative control over something more important than ordering at a restaurant ever again.

A Blazing-Saddles-style breaking of the fourth wall with Drogon going all Torchy McTorchface over the set, the directors, cast, crew, etc would have been more entertaining than what I watched last night. Maybe too much levity, but more entertaining.
