Gaming thread

Downloaded RedDead2 for the boys and I to play. First 'real' game I've played in years....holy shit the graphics.
Just starting it tonight.

It's a brilliant single player game, easily 10/10. Online...kinda shit so far and they're covering new lands with microtransactions.

Bruv, the new season of Ring of Elysium just dropped for the new map Europa Island. This map and updates are amazing. If you're playing PUBG you're wrong. This game is everything PUBG should have been but is not. You can see a lot of similarities to PUBG, but the game is definitely its own flavor. These guys did it right.

Side note, it is made by the same people that made the PUBG mobile game (Tencent).

ETA: Oh, and there is a grappling hook you can use. Enough said.

Observation -

If you play your character in Red Dead 2 like any of Clint's Spaghetti Western characters or Unforgiven, you have a good chance of finishing the game 'honorable.'.

It actually made the game more fun for me when it came to decisions, "what would Clint do?"

I went so far as to design my character's look and clothing to be similar to Eastwood's.

Upgrades arriving Saturday

For anyone who plays Diablo 3 or hasn't in some time, patch 2.6.4 just dropped with a new season starting..today I think? Anyway, the new patch buffs many of the set pieces, adds 5 stash tabs to the armory, and some other changes. The UE Multishot Demon Hunter went from powerful to ridiculous and some of the other builds are straight beasts.

If that isn't your thing, you should check out Grim Dawn. It is a ton of fun though it can be repetitive. A new DLC drops this quarter, so that will be fun to check out.

Did you know there are two endings, depending on if you have an overall honourable or dishonourable rating? I did the honourable one and am feeling like doing another playthrough now. I like your decision making process though!

Yeah, I've watched the other ending on YouTube. I had a 'save' at 30% so I've restarted there...playing him much different. Let's just say it might not work out well if I happen by your camp and the first thing you say is, "Get the hell out of here!"

I just stand there. If they shoot at me, bye bye chicken guy!

Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming out on the 29th. After over decade, I can't wait to see how the story finally finishes.

Diablo 3...I'm a horrible player and I'm so overpowered it is fun. My Barb is running through fools like sarin at a retirement home.

I played it like Ed Harris in Westworld and ended up with a VERY DISHONORABLE rating. I killed, robbed and pillaged my way through that game like a Nazi on meth. For my sins I got a bad flare up of carpal tunnel.

Let us know how that 2070 works for you.

The difference is like night and day, upgrading from a GTX 970, an i5 2500k w/ 8 GB RAM. The CPU held strong for a long time thanks to a solid overclock, but it was finally time for a step change. As for the GPU, I usually upgrade every other generation as the difference is too minimal to upgrade with every big new release -- I don't spend that much time gaming to make it worthwhile. And on the plus side, like in this situation, at least I see a really noticeable difference when I do upgrade. I can finally take full advantage of my 1440p G-Sync monitor. I'm probably good for another 2 years now, 3 at a push.

So what game next?

Read Dead is the first video game I’ve played since I was a kid and I have to admit I really enjoyed it.

It’s a tossup between call of duty black ops, or Grand Theft Auto 5.

I’m leaning towards COD, but I’m not interested in playing around with headsets and multiple people. I just want to play by myself when I want to play.

Can COD be played as a single player or do you have to play in teams?

I played the original Grandtheft auto on my iPhone 100 years ago and I really enjoyed it, thinking it might be a lot of fun to play the newest version on the Xbox.

Thoughts?

If you're open to an alternate suggestion, have you heard of the Witcher 3? It's a dark fantasy game that heavily draws from Polish and Scandinavian mythology, the game itself is beautiful, dark, and massive. Recalled somewhere that you might've played tabletop D&D years ago, so I figured you might get a kick outta something similar.

On the other hand, GTA 5 or COD: Black Ops might have an easier learning curve and game mechanics. If a games single player experience were comparable to candy though, 'COD' is akin to a soft caramel, 'GTA 5' to bubbegum, and the 'Witcher 3' would be a jumbo jawbreaker. Just food for thought.

If you're looking for story and single player comparable to RDR2, you cannot go wrong with the Mass Effect Trilogy. Another good option is the Splinter Cell series. The Master Chief Collection for the HALO series is not a bad option either. Something like 4 or 5 games in onw with plenty of story and single player.

The previous CODs up to 4 or 5 has single player IIRC. I do not believe the most recent iterations have that. If you want story and single among the choices you mentioned, go GTA. You can also play the previous ones. Check the list for Xbox backwards compatibility.

If you want a comparable experience to your actions having an effect on the game world, I would do as @ke4gde suggested and pick up the Mass Effect trilogy. Choices you make in or teammates who live(or die) will carry from the first game to the third.

If you want a shooter, I'd pick up Metal Gear Solid 5. The story can be batshit insane, but it never gets old running around Afghanistan in the 80s taking out Russians.
