Gaming thread

Holy heck! That is crazy. Didn't realize so much was going on in the gaming industry. After the 'gamer gate' thing, I stopped buying games at full price and became a 'patient gamer'. Now I only play the good stuff. There is too little incentive to pay full price for a piece of entertainment that is incomplete or is a hot mess.

Schadenfreuding at EA losing money on Battlefield 5. :ROFLMAO: Good to see people voting with their wallets.

I'm all about buying games that are incomplete. Early releases on Steam tend to be fun, and helping develop the game in some small part also is rewarding when it's with studios/groups that actually pay attention to bug reports.

I've been wanting to get hyped for Anthem.
After playing the beta and then the demo release though.. I just don't find it fun.

This video though is pretty bad ass from the director of District 9

Damn Florida173, I have been waiting for that game to come out....sucks that your experience was bad. If you don't mind me asking, what did you not like about it?

I think it mostly just relates to the controls. It was really bad during the beta, and didn't get much better during the demo. flying isn't too bad, but it's still awkward as hell and difficult to control.. swimming in 3rd person through cave networks gets me drowned.. happened a few time on me.

Maybe it's because it's a console port to PC type game. Once I dig out my controller to play some rocket league with work friends, I might give anthem another go. I got it free with the RTX 2080 card.

I also recently tried playing the Division 2 during it's beta. It was pretty much the Division 1, but in DC. There were apparently some additional game mechanics in the game, but I was not too impressed. I'm not likely to pick it up.

Diablo 3, I'm a horrible player and made it to a GR85 without augments or optimized gear. UE multishot demon hunter makes the HOTA Barbarian look weak in comparison and it is a beast.

You should consider Path of Exile... the amount of extra content and depth is just absurd. Though that does put some people off for the same reason.

You are a better man than I am. I'm careful with how I buy games since I'm doing the console thing and need a game to play well out of the gate. With how political game studios have become I try to avoid companies and titles that sacrifice story and immersivity. One thing I love about gaming, is that it's very laissez-faire when it comes to a titles success. It's neat how great games tend to be rewarded, while half baked games and money grabs are relegated to the bargain bin.

Thanks for the info Florida173, I went ahead and took a chance on it and pre-ordered...will take it for a spin and see. Agree on Division..I was hopeful for The division initial release, but ended up hating it.

Like I said before I think. I have it because of the RTX 2080 purchase.. So I am going to give it a solid try, but I'm hearing some mixed reviews from some of the youtube personalities. I can't seem to get hyped for anything lately..

That's your problem, you're consoling.

IF you played on PC, you'd have the ability to get early releases on the cheap (like 5-10 bucks) and if it's good but has problems? bounce between some other titles and come back to it in 3-6 months. Perfect example being Astroneers. For a while, there was a huge set of vehicular bugs that would send them flying to the physics bubble limit around a player.... which meant it was lost forever, because while it froze there, if you tried to chase it, you just moved the active physics bubble to it's position and it'd keep going.

Fast forward a few months, and it's doing great. If I had the space/time, I'd probably start playing Elite again.

I get what you're saying, but PC gaming is kind of a pain in the ass for me. When VR technology matures a bit more and gaming on PC's becomes more standardized I'll look into it again. For now I'm happy with the standard PS4. Plus, I really dislike online game services.

none of what you said makes sense to me..

Not sure it fits.

That's the problem and joy of PC gaming, it will never be standardized. The whole point of it is to be able to custumize and grow according to your budget and desire. I get it though.

I thought you were smart. My apologies. We'll always have Pakistan.

I just recently finished my play through of Metro Exodus. It was great IMHO. The story telling was fantastic. The settings were diverse and well crafted. The gun play was pretty good. It has a weapon maintenance system that makes it important for you to take care of your rifles otherwise they will start malfunctioning, which made some areas very challenging. I believe it has a chance to be the game of the year. 100% worth the money.

Why do you dislike online gaming services? Every game I buy on Steam, I can use offline. I don't NEED an internet connection, and I have less connectivity on a regular basis going through various parts of North America than any tactical element does in the military. Just because I get my game through an online delivery system doesn't mean any detriment. VR tech is more mature on PC than it ever will be on the nerfed through standardization console platforms, and Gaming is standardized. You game on PC's. Everything else, including Mac's, tries to provide the best emulated experience of.....gaming on a PC.

Just not a fan of gaming shifting towards cloud computing. I like having a physical copy of games and going through a third party service isn't palatable. Steam getting hacked all the time, 3rd party PITA authentication/password recovery, and everything else from program management to hardware setup isn't my cup of tea. It's bad enough that the NSA and every other data compiler knows that I like older blondes, but them knowing I've sunk 100+ hours on something like 'Spyro the Dragon' is just a line in the sand I don't wanna cross. Yet.

Don't get me wrong, I know that PC gaming has amazing benefits but the drawbacks are also quite big as well. I mean I get it. Everyone knows that consoles are just shitty gaming PC's, but I'm just not seeing the return of dropping 1-3k on a system that will be obsolete in 4-5 years. In a few more years, when VR tech gets cheaper and is of a higher quality I'll drop the money on it. For now, I'm happy with what I have.

I've heard of instances of Sony getting hacked a lot more than I've heard instances of Steam getting hacked. Granted, that's anecdotal, but it wouldn't surprise me if its flat out true, too.
Maybe, but I'm not logging into Sony to play my disc games.

Gaming isn't shifting towards cloud computing, the only "cloud" is persistent data so that when your Xbox98 RROD's or your PSwhateverthefuck shits the bed, your iWaifu v.22 FapKing Mod gamesave is right there waiting for you. Physical copies of games get damaged, stolen, or lost, whereas I can log onto Steam from any compatible computer system basically anywhere on the planet I can get internet at and be able to get the entire collection of games that I own to play downloaded onto that system, without having to worry about United beating my ass and throwing my carry-on bag-o-gamez out the emergency exit door.

Drawbacks?

Consoles aren't even honestly qualified to rate as shitty gaming PC's, they're physically and technologically an outdated system by design the day they're unveiled when compared to off-the-shelf components available for putting a basic computer together, and they ruin the overarching gaming experience in general by forcing reduced graphics and oversimplification of game interaction due to literally being a fixed snapshot of hardware and software for developers to do design upon for the next decade. Press X to agree.

Dropping 3k on a system is Luda mode. Flat out. There's no need to spend that on a computer. My entire battlestation including monitors doesn't come close to that number even with incremental upgrades... which is something you're not understanding.

You have any experience with cars or hot rods? Because that's what you're buying into with a PC. Something that comes off the showroom floor doing good things, but as time progresses you can change out the carb for EFI, change the rear diff ratio if you prefer drag to SCCA racing, change the tires and rims, reupholster the seats and throw in a new stereo... All any time you like, if new stuff comes out that does what you do now, or what you want to do, better than what you have.

With PC gaming as new architecture and hardware capabilities come out, the software capabilities increase as well, unlike with consoles. Consoles, as previously mentioned, are a fixed snapshot of hardware development. There are ZERO architectural differences in terms of memory or processing power for graphics or data between a PS4 you bought in 2013 and a PS4 bought today in 2018.

You're literally espousing buying a 2013 Ford Fusion, new-old-stock (because that's literally what it is), in 2018.
