Retention and Recruitment Crisis

So, let's talk about Sen Tuberville.

His actions on holding up promotions (several hundred already on hold with est. 650 by year end) based on Pentagon abortion policy are undoubtedly getting him a lot of hate mail. But, I don't necessarily want to discuss that specific issue. I want to discuss his broader view. He wants to make some fundamental changes to the military and is willing to carry a sledgehammer and take fire to do so -- he's clearly not out to make friends.

These are his latest comments:
Tuberville says military is ‘not an equal opportunity employer’

"U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville said he objected to efforts by a top military official to recruit and promote racial minorities in the armed forces, saying equal opportunity threatens military readiness.

“Let me tell you something. Our military is not an equal opportunity employer,” the Alabama Republican said in an interview with Bloomberg Television’s “Balance of Power” Tuesday.

“We’re looking for the best of the best to do whatever. We’re not looking for different groups, social justice groups. We don’t want to single-handedly destroy our military from within,” he said. “We all need to be one. It’s like a football team I coached. You can’t have different groups. Everybody’s got to be together to win. There’s no second place in war.”

Thoughts?

(Yes, I have some but will wait to see a few before sharing)
It's not an equal opportunity employer, in today's sense of the word.

Meet standards or move on, was the standard. Everybody got a shot, but standards were standards.

Not so today.

The Department of Defense is an Equity Opportunity Employer. So he's right.

Just for shit and giggles - an update on the 101st Airborne Divsion.

The 2nd BDE of the 101st Airborne Division has a soldier who is a week into terminal leave and still doesn't have separation orders yet.
The enlisted support chain in that unit must be full of shit bags - and the officers must be too busy jerking each other off over their OER bullets to keep a thumb on the pulse of how their units are running - or at least too stupid to realize how bad their small unit leaders treat their Soldiers.

Easy IG complaint.

Saw a recruiter post this on LinkedIn today…the Corps does put out some slick ads.

That's very cool.

Kind of sorta related, I want two or three old school recruiting posters for my office for the Navy and Marine Corps, you know how much those things go for? Holy cow, they're expensive.

I "went." I don't regret it.

Should I Stay or Should I Go?

September 20, 2023 by Dave Chamberlin

Back in 1981, the rock group “The Clash” released a song entitled, “Should I Stay or Should I Go?” and one of the verses in the lyrics says:
“Should I stay, or should I go now? If I go there will be trouble, and if I stay it will be double.”
Admittedly this song is about a relationship problem, but it’s a question that most every military member asks themselves at least once during their career. The exceptions would be those who get booted out or separated with no say in the matter. And of course, the longer the career, the more often the question might come up. It’s also sometimes a very difficult decision to make, for a host of different reasons.

Army short 15, 000 support troops so now have to cut SOF. The good news..I worked with Army COS General George when he was a battalion commander. He cares.

Army short 15,000 recruits this year | Fox News Video

Didn't see the link, but help me understand: why would they cut already-short staffed SOF which guys/gals are contracting into, when there is also short staffed support? Is the rationale that if SOF does not have the support then they cannot be fielded, so may as well cut them, too, while building the support side?

Thats how I understood it. The Army Sec says combat troops are just hollow troops without support. Is this another way for Dems to downsize the military? I'd be looking for a solution to support my investments. I'm not coming at this with any of my right-wing outrage, there are times to adjust the numbers, I'm just not sure this is the time.

Thanks. I am not looking at it with any bias either, just curious about the rationale, especially given all the chatter over the past however many years about bumping up SOF.

Any PAO can write a memo for him to sign. He probably had a team working on the thing.

Nah, his rep ain't the best and the DoD is more political than a 1930's Young Communists meeting at Cambridge. He wants to do the right thing?
- Address the military's suicide problem.
- Stop the political indoctrination of our servicemembers.
- Basically do the opposite of Milley.

What I expect from him, and hope I'm wrong:
- White people bad, white men worse. DEI-ho-silver, away!
- Openly kissing the White House's ass instead of professionally pushing back on some of the nonsense.
- A continued cover-up of the suicide problem.

If I were king for a day? I'd give the JCS 90 days to show me why I shouldn't fire them in an obnoxious, public manner.
