Perhaps. Or ... it IS a literal take, which' theatric functionality would also apply in that very fictional setting. Besides detective work, Batman is also a lot about theatrics, appearance and deception. Maybe eyeshadow/camo is part of it in this one. ^^

In any case, I got a good feeling about this one.
 
Before the George Floyd incident I would believe this. Jimmy Pitaro when he took over ESPN was charged with having employees focusing on the core business of sports and not be a political platform. Jemele Hill and Michael Smith were overtly political when they were moved into the 6PM slot of SportsCenter and didn't really do "SportsCenter" it was a pretty trashy show if you desired sports takes. The ratings for the just after work hour sank into the ocean and Hill was moved to the Undefeated where she could be very woke. She left ESPN and became the Atlantic's Woke Writer.

Then the Floyd Incident happened and we had nation wide unrest and the Undefeated hosted a conversation on race, the ratings for that were awful. Now you have NBA players saying they won't play basketball because of the latest shooting. But again, they won't do shit about the violence that happens every day.

It's pretty straightforward. Firstly, the phrase is a generalized observation that has many evidentiary instances (from movies, to tv shows, to comics, and more) over the past few years. Secondly, the DT has a very strong downwards trend, movie-on-movie. Thirdly, Disney has yet to break even on the LF/Star Wars purchase of >$4B. It's not to say that these movies made no money. But they are making way less than they "should" - or at least less than Disney execs would have anticipated. Pre-KK, Star Wars was an infinite money printer. With KK, it has been rapidly turning into a liability (especially if you start considering the wider revenue base that has totally tanked, including SW-branded merch and theme parks).

They are only making less comparatively because budgets have skyrocketed; the rate of return on box office is still within 1% point of the prequel trilogy.

The more likely scenario for why they aren't "infinite money printers" has to do more with competitive films and pure oversaturation of these brands than it does with costumers skipping these films because of the percieved "wokeness".

Pure apologia from renowned Disney shill Scott Mendelson. Which completely ignores the massive increase in overseas markets (read, China) revenues that came out of nowhere post-PT.

Well that's the mouse's party line, for sure. But if we're talking about why this franchise is underperforming, maybe we should listen to the people who actually stopped paying money, rather than Disney's damage control PR spin. You know, cause they're the ones who were expected to shell out but didn't. And they are legion, and not at all shy about saying why Disney SW is dead to them. Hint: it has nothing to do with "oversaturation" (seriously? MCU anyone?).

And none of that has anything to do with the intentional fracturing of the fan base, straight-up school-yard shit-talking from the directors and producers, the utter failure of merch to sell, the garbage results of Galaxy's Edge (even before the 'rona). Nor does it speak to Kurtzman's Star Trek, Dr. Who, DC Comics, Ghostbusters, Batwoman, Ocean's 8, Dark Phoenix, Terminator: Dark Fate, Birds of Prey, Charlie's Angels, the freaking NBA, ESPN, and much, much more.

This is an (empirically) undeniable trend across much of our current popular media. "Woke"ness certainly doesn't account for all of it. Some of these films/etc. were just trash, regardless of any political messaging agenda. Many of them are intentionally and explicitly antagonistic and hostile to the preexisting fan base.

And again, the built-in fandoms who are fleeing these IPs are telling us exactly why, and it has nothing to do with oversaturation or other super-awesome movies outcompeting them. You can watch about 15 hours of DT critique from Mauler to get basically every reason why these movies are failures, or you can sum it up in a snappy, pithy one liner: "get woke, go broke".
 
I've been a big superhero fan my whole life and maybe I'm in the minority, but I have absolutely no problem with reboots, even of franchises that have already had really great films in the past. I was v excited to see The Batman trailer. Bring on Pattinson!

Not really sure what the point is of casting non-French actors as French folk anymore when there are amazing French actors that could be used. Robert Pattinson as the Dauphin Charles just didn't do it for me.
