Ukraine - Russia Conflict

Major battle developing over Avdiivka. Following massive bombardments, the Russians began launching mechanized assaults from several directions. Looks to me like 1 direct and two flanking assaults to encircle and reach around the rear. Some Ukrainian trenches were allegedly overrun or captured on the outskirts, but for no significant gains so far, even according to some Russian telegram channels. Russia reportedly lost the equvivalent of an armored battalion in the past 48hours already, after trying to rush and outflank AFU positions there. That is usualy something like a one or two days tally for the entire war zone. Which unterlines the intensity. Its a heavily defended area and could potentialy become a second Vuhledar if the AFU can defend succesfully.

Interesting to observe also, the seemingly growing pushback against propaganda.

I don't have the link, but I saw where the Russians have converted some type of tracked vehicle into improvised APC's. The destroyed versions looked like an armored doghouse was welded to the back of whatever chassis they are using.

Makes me wonder how much time, money, and man hours they are spending on refurbishing old tanks and these other half-assed "modifications".

Tbf I think both sides are doing that as they are running out of the good stuff. But its still at higher rate for the Russians, at least according to Oryx. Even after the AFU blundered quite a bit in their counteroffensive and lost a good chunk of their Western hardware.
Same with "cope cages" / slat armor and ERA bricking everything.

Avdiivka has been fought over since 2014 and is regarded as one of the most fortified areas in this conflict. Ukrainians are getting hammered and losing many people. But its very telling that even with fire superiority and hitting the AFU with FAB-1500s, incendiary munition, gunships and what not, Russians are unable to overcome the defences.
They can't rush through the fields without running over their own and enemy mines. They can't rush via roads because that's a guaranteed hit. The few Russian units that manage to reach some occupied tree lines, are easily picked off by their defenders. AFU artillery has reportedly greater range, munition, efficiency and mobility, able to evade counter-battery fire. They know and see that, yet keep tossing thousands of ppl to their deaths. To me, even if they managed to throw the AFU out of there ( which wouldn't be good for them ), its a "graveyard" level disaster either way. But that's evidently not a concern.
Some other observations are the stark cotrast of losses between infantry units with Bradleys versus Soviet hardware, that has dozens of ppl sitting on top. Cope cage still don't seem to help against atgms.

Warning, graphic.

Russians are keeping up the pressure, while suffering crazy attrition to artillery, atgms and cluster munition. Their own channels compare the cost of the past 11 days to what the AFU suffered in their summer counteroffensive. That is wild. Lots of cases where they just run over their own mines. But most damage is done by the Ukrainians. Who have now also begun deploying ATACMS, starting with a strike against two Russian helicopter bases.

In a war everyone, minus our government check writers, forgot about because of Hamas:

A Ukrainian missile strike on a shipyard in Crimea damages a Russian ship

The Russian military said a Ukrainian missile strike on a shipyard in annexed Crimea had damaged a Russian ship.

The Russian Defense Ministry said late Saturday that Ukrainian forces fired 15 cruise missiles at the Zaliv shipyard in Kerch, a city in the east of the Crimean Peninsula. Air defenses shot down 13 missiles but others hit the shipyard and damaged a vessel, a statement from the ministry said.

The ministry didn't give details about the ship or the extent of the damage.

At some point all these losses will have to begin hurting them. I know Russia has spent a lot of time digging in and has multiple defensive belts. But at some point there will be no one left to man those defensive belts due to the manpower they spent on the minor offensives.

I think it will continue to be a problem as long as Russia's military industrial complex remains intact and and keeps krankig out Soviet hardware. They may not be able to produce as much as they lose on a monthly basis. But its still more than anything Ukraine is capable of in comparison. It seems only logistical infrastructure and supplies have been targeted by the AFU ( and whoever keeps saboutaging in Russia ) so far.
Besides the threat of further escalation, I don't know if hitting their industry is even physicaly possible or practical with the AFU's current means. Maybe they very well are, but Ukraine simply chooses ( or is advised / pressured ) to not escalate things to another level. Idk.
