Your 2024 Presidential Election Thread

Was he removed because he caved and helped get Byron his CR?

There was a CR bill before the one that got passed this weekend that had border security in it and those clowns voted against it becuase of Ukraine or some shit.

I'll preface this with I don't like Gaetz and that whole Boebert/ MTG whatever group. I think they are trash.

Anywho, one theme I've heard him hammer home in interview after interview is that McCarthy lied to Gaetz and the others. The umpteeth deal to make McCarthy the speaker made concessions for Gaetz and Co., concessions that according to Gaetz McC never carried out. Gaetz has threatened this day for a few weeks now and McC has blown him off.

Gaetz finally called McC on his bullshit. I understand politicians lie and everything, but as much as I dislike Gaetz, I agree with him on this one. McC crawfished on his deal and I think had he lived up to more of it, he'd still be the Speaker. McC is also a bag of shit, so I'm not sorry to see him go.

Shit like this is why Republicans will continue to lose ground in 2024.

Yup. A few years ago the Dems didn't have a plan, it was obvious, they had Barack and...nothing. They still don't have a plan, they are worse off than they were before, but Trump and the GOP's disarray are keeping the DNC afloat. Despite that, they still can't get out of their own way.

The first party to get its shit together will dominate American politics, but that's unlikely to happen.

I'm just gonna' enjoy the chaos, because that's all we have for the foreseeable future.

I'm not a fan of Gaetz or that factions political grandstanding, but I do like to see these career politicians get put back in their place. McCarthy out as Speaker and Pelosi punted out of the Speakers office is a nice kick in the ass to the ole boy system.

Nancy Pelosi evicted from her private office in the Capitol by interim House speaker

She can poormouth all she wants, and people will lap it up because Republicans are evil creature hell bent on creating a Fascist state (or whatever those clowns think). Did it ever occur (it probably did, but you have to play the game) that sometimes you have to send a message? Sometimes you have to put your opponent back on their heels and unbalance them? If the Republicans are petty for evicting her, isn't she petty for whining about losing her exclusive space?

Upset the natural order.

Pelosi embodies the establishment and isnt used to having real opponents. Its clear that a small group of people are bucking the system and that is certainly needed. The problem is that those bucking the system will become the system. Term limits would go a long way toward fixing this, but they won't vote their own livelihood and career aspirations away. Afterall, if you stay long enough, you get a private hideaway office where you dont have to mingle with the jr members of congress.

Yes, this.

I agree, not a huge fan of Gaetz (to be fair I really don't know much about him), but what did McCarthy expect (rhetorical) when he made multiple deals to get his position then tell those he dealt with 'fuck off' when the markers were being called?

I never liked McCarthy and he reaped what he sowed.

Two things I am so fed up with: the unlimited check we've written to the Ukraine at the expense of our country, and the bullshit at the border. If refusing to address those means shutting down the government, I don't care.

Edited to add, that Pelosi got evicted from her office? That's just icing on the cake.

I love the pipe-dream idea some on the far right are trying to promote of Donald Trump being elected as Speaker of the House. Now, I haven't been a Trump supporter and it's silly to think this would somehow ever happen, but, whatever, I'm in for the chaos...so, let's go! 🍿

His ego won't allow it...

So I'd rather he help get someone in place he can work with if he's reelected POTUS.

Don't you have to be elected to the House first?

edited to add: should have Googled before responding--

The Speaker of the House’s Constitutional Role | Constitution Center.
And there is one interesting, unique footnote about the Speaker of the House position: The job candidate doesn’t have to be a member of the House of Representatives. But as of 2023, no person has been chosen as Speaker who was not a member of the House.

Just to exercise the imagination...

"What if?"

Seriously -
I would love - just for the sake of theoretical conversation - to hear what folks think about such an absolutely surreal happening in 2023 America.

Because, lets face it - if there was EVER a time in the history of this nation that an unseated, twice impeached POTUS could fill the position as "Speaker of the House" - I would state with confidence that we are living on the fractured timeline of human events where a shipwreck could run aground and cause a train wreck that resulted in a renegade dumpster fire where the words, "Speaker Trump" would be uttered just prior to a state of the union speech delivered by Joe Biden.
...end quote

Our entire government has become so completely full of shit and so completely arrayed against the people they are supposed to support that all I can think is - Trump as speaker?
What difference at this point does it make?

I swear - the absolute insanity unfolding before our very eyes - I can't seem to get the following tune out of my head:

-Come with me and you'll be, In a world of pure imagination
-Take a look and you'll see Into your imagination

-We'll begin with a spin, traveling in the world of CNN's creation
What we'll see...
...will defy
...Ex-plana-tion

-If you want to view disarray; simply look around and view it.
Anything you want to...
...do it
-Watching the world burn?
-There's nothing to it

Speaker Trump...
...yes I know
...its a world of pure imagination !!!
-Living there, you'll be free
-If you watch it...

...on TV

This is why I'm all in on the chaos. Let's fucking go...hold my beer.

Well, she's no longer the former speaker, McCarthy is now the former speaker. So under the "tradition", McCarthy gets to keep the larger suite of office space for as long as he needs until there is a new "former speaker".

I don't think he'll do it, but as always, he knows how to make the Democrats heads explode. Schumer has already imploded but I'm waiting to see Pelosi's response. 🍿

Trump would accept House speakership for a 'short period' while Republicans decide on a permanent replacement

Trump just dangling it out there...delicious, world-class trolling. I don't even like the guy and would love to see him as the Speaker. That's more satisfying than a good cheesecake or creme brulee on the palette. Make the gavel great again.
