Your 2024 Presidential Election Thread

IDK man, I think Elon, Vivek, Thiel, etc also qualify as elites.
Might be more accurate to say we've learned "cultural elites"(ew) don't beat "economic/tech elites".

You're being way to shallow in your reasoning. You are a democrat and a liberal one based on what I've read from your positions. That's ok, but your comment betrays you a bit. Taylor Swift may have voted for Kamala, she may have taken 30 Mill for the instagram post, but you know what Taylor didn't do? She didn't hold her own rallies in her home state of Pennsylvania or in her current state of Tennessee in support of Kamala. She didn't use her tour platform to talk about Kamala either.

Elon and Vivek? They went on the stump. There is a huge difference here. None of those people that Kamala had behind her put their livelihood on the line, none of them actually believed in their positions enough to sacrifice a single dollar. '

Plenty of Tech elites supported the Democrats. Although I've been saying these things for days, maybe you don't see me as an authority (I'm not). But what I'm saying is exactly what Manchin's chief of staff told the WaPo:

“It’s very simple: If you try to win elections by talking to the elites of this country, you’re going to get your ass kicked — there are not enough Beyonces, Oprahs or Hollywood elites to elect anyone,” said Chris Kofinis, former chief of staff to Sen. Joe Manchin III (I-West Virginia). “Trump is not the disease. He is the symptom. The disease is political, cultural, and economic elites who keep telling the public what they should think, feel and believe — and guess what they told them on Tuesday: Go to hell.

We're in a place where celebrity endorsements and newspaper endorsement are becoming negative motivators...especially when that endorsement is from Pravda or that celebrity just sits at home and doesn't put their money and time on the line.

I like Kari, and it's funny they call her "Trump in high heels." My wife thinks she's pretty cool too. Trump needs people who support his agenda, he has enough pushback.
The blues are funny people. To them it can only be a person of color or female gender but only if it's in line with their ideologies.

That's how I know they're full of crap.

My point was it's disingenuous to say that the Dems align with "the elites" when the richest man in the world is literally showing up at campaign events for you. If that's an example of "an elite" then we might be using different definitions of that term.

That aside, I do agree with everything in your post. The liberal-side elites are not as involved as the conservative-side ones are. The DNC focuses way to much on cultural issues and smugness instead of actual issues.

Many of my more liberal-leaning friends were in an uproar about Harris's loss, calling everyone who voted for Trump a fascist, a racist, a woman-hater, transphobic, and every other "-phobic" they could name. "Enjoy your dictatorship. You're an idiot if you voted for him. Ignorant." I just laughed at them and told them, "You guys speak about fascism, and look how you're acting. Look at your behavior. Anyone who has a different opinion, anyone who says they support Trump—you want to bash them, you want them fired or ostracized by society. Anyone who disagrees with you, you vehemently try to destroy. You think because you hide it behind some virtue signaling that it’s not the very thing you say you’re against? Not one of you is saying, 'Man, where did we go wrong?' No, instead you're calling everyone and anyone pieces of shit because they didn’t pick your candidate."
Lots of false dilemmas out there between them.

Hence the real problem here, the wrongful use of definitions. Your side is incredibly disingenuous in themselves so I must ask here. Are you projecting? Because this is a known trait of your side.

And after asking I want it made clear that I am not attacking you personally but I am trying to help educate the misunderstandings between us all. And when one says elite, I do consider famous persons in the music and film or art industries that's a name almost everyone knows and is popular, as an elite.

Read to me with a link provided to the word elite in definitions of. Both Elon and Taylor Swift meet the definitions of them.

Elon is an oligarch. Even though Tay Tay is rich beyond belief, I would only classify her as an elite.

Taylor has Swifties, and has been using them to her political advantage. Elon de-platformed a propaganda machine and runs successful businesses and has gained a following. Both have followers.

The argument over which is what and which isn't, is extremely petty when being used to disparage another's argument that triggered someone.

This a culture war. Both sides and us in the middle all know that to win people over we are going to want to use famous people with followers to be the messengers and missionaries. That was the original argument that one of us decided to make a different term for that word elite, and Elon still qualifies as one FYI so calling as such still stands as it's a correct term further still.

Some of the first people to congratulate Trump were tech bros like Zuck, Tim Cook of Apple, and Bill Gates. The same people who vilified the guy for the better part of a decade and actively worked against him.

They might lean left, but at the end of the day they lean towards who can make them more money.

Because they know that they could lose that money too if they don't kiss the ring of fealty.

What is an oligarch but an elite through money?
It's like how all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares.

To your early question, I'd say "elites" would be people with outsized social influence through economic/cultural means. What you're saying here is the point I was making. Elites aren't just entertainment industry celebs, and they aren't just tied to one party anymore.

What is a straw man but a straw man in a disingenuous retort? You're pretending that a person cannot have more than one synonym here. That's indefensible as an argument.

And no, there are elites out there who are definitely tied to just one party and one party alone. If they change over, the internet calls it being pilled. I call it walking away. I walked away from the Dems when they chose an absolute bag of nonsense with Bill Clinton. And being it's 2024 he still has yet to not prove once that he wasn't a lying, pedo, adultering, Un-American dingleberry of douche-nozzle proportions. You just don't come back to a party that supported him and tried to damage control that he as a married man never cheated and that a BJ from a position of power over a subordinate was okay...which is how I know that every argument being used against an R that was even remotely close to being a slime-bag too, is a false one of mock outrage.

I digress.

If you want to be a proponent of changing semantics to fit your narrative here, that's fine I guess. But to call another disingenuous while doing so yourself, is projection my friend and that's a fact.

I literally said an oligarch is just another word for an elite. I never said they can't have more, just that one being a specific term doesn't prevent the other from being applicable.

I've yet to call anyone disingenuous. Not sure where I'm "changing semantics" at either on this topic.

Idk what you're on about projection, this is literally just a conversation on a niche military forum I like to play punching bag on sometimes lol. It's really not that serious.

You were arguing with the other guy saying that Swift wasn't an elite. Then another called him an oligarch when the topic was use of this word elite was the topic.

If it isn't so serious, then why have a serious tone when wanting to rebuttal with everyone? You announced being concerned with AI and fake news, yet the elections were over and nothing could be done to change minds over something that has no going back to. That's being serious to me, in a not so serious conversation now that the results are final. You cannot see it? Or challenging accusations about possible cheating in the AZ elections as not being serious? Jeez.

A not so serious reply is agreeing to disagree. Is not being serious another different meaning to you then too?

I forget sometimes that I'm (probably) the youngest member of this board.

"Not that serious" is commonly used as a synonym for "calm down" on the internet within certain sites/age groups. We can have serious conversations without getting riled up.

I post in the politics threads here specifically for the conversations. I'd go on reddit, but i hold the distinction of being banned from posting on both the conservative and democrat subreddits.

I think you've misread a bunch of my comments if you think I was disagreeing with people about Swift being an elite, or if you think I'm the person who brought up the word oligarch for Musk.

Either way, I gotta go get a ruck in. I'll agree to disagree on this and let this thread get back on track.

New topic suggestion! Trump announces Border Czar

I’m excited to see what food prices do when/if the deportations happen. Will be fun when food 3-5x’s price, or the deficit balloons because we have to increase subsidies to farmers to artificially drive prices down. But hey Military aged males(also working in fields and manual labor aged males) will be deported. I know I can afford my grocery bill to double or triple. I don’t think most Americans can.
