When that announcement hit our inboxes, my thoughts were 1) Yay! 2) Glad I'm not a contractor (because I could see the shit show that extra day will cause).

Commuting the death sentences just means they're no longer able to waste money dragging shit out in court; they've still got life without parole.

The inmates with constant legal visits were the worst ones to deal with. They had more chances to assault guards due to the frequency of moves, and they'd get so much "legal mail" that some guys would manage to make paper mache body armor and spears.

From what I remember of talking with some of the staff lawyers, the federal death penalty process has a requirement for judicial review after conviction and additional appeals that inmates can apply for after that. These can both take years.

About the only way to speed up executions is for inmates to waive their rights to review or appeal.

To revisit the Matt Gaetz allegations- read them here, the house released the report. @TLDR20 was posting as I was writing this.

I will say this as clearly as I can- he wasn't charged by the DOJ, this isn't anything new, and it at least appears to be political in nature. The majority of the report and allegations hinge on one person- Joel Greenberg. It's chock full of "one male witness reported seeing Matt Gaetz at a party giving money to a woman" and the like.

That being said, all politicians are garbage and if they bring charges and can prove these allegations, burn him to the ground. Don't care. Findings start on page 31.

I am SUPER excited for the rebound investigations of the like when the Republicans hold the same "investigative levers".
