If anyone ever wants to kill an hour, NOCLIP has an episode that focuses on the Doom franchise. There are also some pretty neat documentaries on some other pretty neat games and their developers.

My god, the hours upon hours I played Doom and Wolfenstein. It’s been so long, but do I remember that the primary controllers were the arrow directional keys on the keyboard and the ‘space bar’ to fire?
Ooh-Rah.... my oh my, how Doom has changed over the years. If you ever get a chance to pick it up, be prepared for a wild ride.

So just started playing SCUM on Steam, it is in Early Access (which means bugs), but overall the game has a lot of potential. Think of DayZ, Arma, and Escape from Tarkov having a baby... that baby is this game.
The level of detail in the character biometrics/biostatistics is insane.
If you like survival games check out the videos on the Steam page and see what it is all about. You have to ingest the correct nutrients, defecate, urinate and throw up if you eat something bad. Well, you don't have to pay attention to the stats, but you increase your lethality in-game when battling other players or zombies. Oh, and be sure to go up and hug the giant mechs protecting the high value loot areas.

I picked up COD Black Ops 4 last night. I didn't realize it has a battle royale mode.

It's fun, if you enjoy the feel of CoD in general and like BR games you'll love it. Best immediate advice I can give is that you need to be careful if you're out in the open. The time to kill is so fast that it's very difficult to recover if someone gets the drop on you. I haven't tried the regular MP mode or zombies yet.
I really enjoyed Kenshi back when I had a computer, Dark Souls may he difficult, but Kenshi is for masochists.

Haven't tried COD yet, but played Ring of Elysium and loved it. That game is what PUBG should have been. Highly recommend it. Flows very smoothly and plays very well for an early access game.
