Your 2014 Relieved Naval Commander Thread

Wow, grabbing the ass of a Chief's wife and the Triad goes down due to drunken dumbassedness. Way to go, Navy. Stay classy...

Not just groping...

Navy Times quoted a report of the alleged incident: "Over the course of the evening, the commanding officer began intoxicated and at some point he is alleged to have assaulted the victim by shoving/pushing in the face."

Guess he doesn't like being told to stop it.

Looks like the various Navy Ball's held around the fleet tonight are great places to serve a subpoena.

Damn, I thought this would be a real story. It's odd that there hasn't been much activity in this thread lately. Maybe the Navy fired everyone...:-o:-o

Naaah, they've just got to get the paperwork all together for that last blast before the new year, kinda like the grand finale of a fireworks show. Only it's men's careers going up in flames instead of pyrotechnic goodies.

Capt. James Fanell, the director of intelligence and information operations at U.S. Pacific Fleet, has been removed from that position by PACFLT boss Adm. Harry Harris and reassigned within the command, Navy officials confirmed.

Fanell warned during a February public appearance that a recent Chinese amphibious exercise led naval intelligence to assess that China's strategy was to be able to launch a "short, sharp war" with Japan, an unusually frank assessment about a closely watched region.

Meh, He'll Retire and become an analyst at Fox.
He's in trouble for stating the truth. For the life of me, I can not understand why Senior Naval Officer's continue to downplay China? Are they afraid? co-opted?

Navy revokes honorary title given to Cosby :whatever:

The Navy is revoking former-sailor Bill Cosby's title of honorary chief petty officer, saying allegations of sexual abuse made against the comedian are serious and conflict with the Navy's core values.

Navy Secretary Ray Mabus and Master Chief Petty Officer Michael Stevens made the announcement Thursday in a statement.

'The Navy is taking this action because allegations against Mr. Cosby are very serious and are in conflict with the Navy's core values of honor, courage and commitment,' they said in a statement.

Childish
Wonder if the naval Academy Athletic Director thought this one up?

(From 2014 article). Captain of USS Boxer Relieved of Duty

Only 3 months as CO. My guess is something came up on a CMEO survey that may be tied to the previous CO...or something to that effect.
Seems the USS Boxer has been a bit of a shit show for quite some time. When do we get to ‘relieve’ the whole freeking Navy senior leadership for lack or confidence, etc?

From 2024 article:
Amphib USS Boxer Sidelined by "General Complacency" and Breakdowns

The USS Boxer LHD-4, which was delayed out of maintenance, and then missed her deployment (should be in WestPac right now with its MEU) earlier this year, its been revealed the delays are tied to an ENTIRE department's incompetence. Where's the Top Snipe?

The canary in the coal mine was the fire and destruction of the USS Bonhomme Richard LHD-6 due to suspected foul play and/or poor maintenance, now USS Boxer has missed her deployment due to sub-standard performance, machinery failure & leadership, and on the East Coast USS Wasp LHD-1 limped back to port the same day she departed due to a driveshaft problem. The West Coast/Pacific Fleet is down TWO big-deck amphibious ships, both of them (Bonhomme Richard and Boxer) were to deploy the new F-35B into the Western Pacific. The USMC is livid their MEU's can't deploy fully and are scrambling to come up with ideas on how to get their units out.

Some highlights from the article…

"Numerous deficiencies (non-conforming parts, poor quality control, poor craftsmanship, non OEM supervision) have been noted in the recent overhauls," concluded the command investigation. "The repetitive overhaul/repair of the [forced draft blowers] onboard Boxer may be an indicator of shortfalls in contractor experience necessary to conduct steam plant repairs."

In May 2023, USS Boxer experienced an unspecified incident during a boiler light-off, which the strike group commander attributed to complacency and a departure from "sound shipboard operating principles." The incident could have resulted in severe injuries, though luckily no crewmembers were harmed.

In mid-July, Boxer's engineering team needed to rotate the propulsion system's main reduction gear for maintenance. Despite multiple rounds of retraining and outside intervention after the previous casualties, they again departed from procedure: the team spun the main gearbox for two hours without lubrication, and did not notify the commanding officer of this potentially damaging decision until 27 hours later.

"Despite two previous major engineering casualty incidents within eight months, USS Boxer engineering department personnel continued to deviate from sound engineering practices and failed to apply lessons learned from previous engineering casualties. All watchstanders displayed an appalling lack of procedural compliance and general complacency in this casualty," the strike group commander found.

Relive for cause the Department Head, all E-7 and up. Surviving officers get 90 days to fix or RFC.
Those Chief's who were fired get retired, or a career ending performance report.

Just curious -
- is the money that needed to be spent maintaining our own strategic defense being spent on the much more profitable destruction of Ukrainian and Russian hardware ???
Maybe the maintenance budget for our military is being redirected to Hamas under the guise of humanitarian aid for the children?

...asking for a friend

Someone once said that nothing is too good for our military. True words.
