CEO of UnitedHealthcare gunned down

The fact the shooter knew he'd be on the side walk at that time has to be one of the biggest clues. Who knew his schedule and routines?

Schedule isn’t a big clue since who knew: The whole world, it was their investor day. Their Investor Relations literally pumps out when these people are speaking, what location, what room, and the conference host will have dinner itineraries sent out weeks in advance offering seats at the table and the host company sales people will actively/aggressively look to fill.

6:45am EST is a pretty normal time for people to be up and moving especially on a packed trip or any C levels in NYC. Lots of breakfast meetings.

But wait, there's more....
UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was facing DOJ probe for insider trading when he was killed in targeted NYC shooting

UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was one of several senior executives at the company under investigation by the Department of Justice when he was gunned down outside a Manhattan hotel on Wednesday.

Thompson — who was killed in what police called a targeted shooting outside the Hilton hotel in Midtown — exercised stock options and sold shares worth $15.1 million on Feb. 16, less than two weeks before news of the federal antitrust probe went public, according to a Crain’s New York Business report from April.

The stock price dropped sharply after the revelation that the DOJ was investigating whether the company had made acquisitions that consolidated its market position in violation of antitrust laws, a source familiar with the probe told the outlet.

Thompson, 50, along with UnitedHealth Group chairman Stephen Helmsley, Chief People Officer Erin McSweeney and Chief Accounting Officer Tom Roos, sold a combined $101.5 million in shares, with Helmsley personally netting just shy of $85 million, according to the report.

X is fascinating. It really is the new media. You have to sift through a lot of bullshit, but there is some good info out there.

I'm leaning towards the idea the shooter was either just lucky and/or a competent amateur.

Additional facts have come to light:

1. 3 spent 9mm shell casings and 3 live 9mm rounds were found at the scene. This discredits the idea he was collecting the brass and supports the idea of malfunction/failure to cycle. Also, doesn't support the selection of "the best tool for the job"

2. A good photo of the masked shooter was released:

3. Police have walked back the idea that he used an ebike during his escape.

4. Thompson was hit in the leg and back.
When he fires his first round, he comes to a full standstill and appears to hit Thompson in the leg; maybe that was intentionally, but probably not.

5. A cellphone was found at the scene

A few things here, my initial impressions were gold digger wife/family looking for inheritance or insurance payout (how striking) when I realized he's the CEO of United Healthcare, my health insurance company.

I hate when they throw around total revenues when they talk about these giant corporations like somebody has $400 billion sitting in a vault. The insurance industry as a whole usually clears 2-3% profit according to my old Econ textbook. United Healthcare Group was sitting around 6.4%, with net income of $23.86 billion in 2023. Add the bad press of CEO compensation, plus the latest scandal on news of denying claims. It doesn't take rocket scientist to figure out this dude himself is behind just that.

News reported that some of the shell casings at the scene had single words written on them. "Deny", "Defend", "Depose". My SS dollars are on family member of patient that died within the past couple of years after being denied lifesaving care.

UnitedHealthcare CEO assassin believed to have left a message at the scene on bullet casings: report

News reported that some of the shell casings at the scene had single words written on them. "Deny", "Defend", "Depose". My SS dollars are on family member of patient that died within the past couple of years after being denied lifesaving care.

This seems like the most realistic scenario.

------

Very long propublica article about one specific denial, but worth a Read.

United had a high-cost patient with ulcerative colitis. Company denies care, patient appeals.

As just one example of the shit pulled durong appeal; United went so far as to claim their internal Dr. and his treating Dr. agreed to lower his drug dosage, which is a conversation that never occurred.

Slight tangent, but maybe Blue Cross Blue Shield will change their new policy of Not paying for anesthesia if surgery takes to long.

To add…

Revealed: Link between bullets used to kill Brian Thompson and book — Daily Mail

Curiously, the messages bear similarity to the title of a 2010 book on 'why insurance companies don't pay claims and what you can do about it', called 'Delay, Deny, Defend'.

Critics allege the tactic is used by insurance companies to 'ensure your claim is either never paid or paid at a rate far below what you deserve'.

My daughter was involved in a minor fender bender back in 2013. Our insurance is Geico, the other party is represented by Morgan and Morgan. The other driver alleges whiplash, loss of income, blah, blah, bullshit. And while it is all bullshit, Geico has not paid a single dime to the "victim."

I don't know how anyone could think this guy is a professional. That notion is absurd.

He had a cup of coffee from Starbucks. Cup recovered. DNA. Cellphone, brass, live rounds found at or near scene. Videos. Tons of evidence. Eye witnesses. Yeah, no this motherfucker was hopped up on revenge. He was cool, driven by hate… and it’s almost like he didn’t really give a shit if he got caught.

Who writes on brass casings? Somebody obsessed.

from the article:

He was experiencing bloody diarrhea up to 20 times a day, with such severe stomach pain that he spent much of his day curled up on a couch. He had little appetite and lost 50 pounds. Severe anemia left him fatigued. He suffered from other conditions related to his colitis, including crippling arthritis. He was hospitalized several times to treat dangerous blood clots.

that poor man. :(

I worked with a guy who had Crohn's Disease. He wasn't as bad off as the gentleman above, but he was miserable. As someone who deals with mild digestive issues, I don't think society appreciates how bad your life can be if you have a chronic GI disease. I can't imagine moderate problems, much less something on their level.

My sister has IBS; she describes it like this…whatever your occasional worst GI day might be? That’s her feeling ‘okay’ and having an average day.

I either take a pill 30-60 minutes before I eat or write off the next 4 hours. Even with the medication, it is hit and miss. I can no kidding be in the middle of a meal and have to speed walk to the bathroom. I can eat something "readily identifiable" at breakfast and see the results before dinner; normal digestion takes around 24 hours.

I schedule my life around meals or skipping them altogether. I also had my gall bladder removed in 2000. So...I can't fathom something like Crohn's disease.

There's a bit more and the above is a tad gross and personal, but someone with IBS isn't mildly inconvenienced.

I'll believe this was a professional hit when the DNA examination from his coffee cup, forensics on the cell phone, and finger print analysis on the spent shell casing all proving definitively that the shooters name is Elwood - and that he lives at 1060 W Addison St in Chicago, IL 60613...

Beyond that far fetched possibility - I'm going with "hey Mr Thompson, eat shit, and die" as the shooters primary game plan.
Then when he returned to base for debriefing and cocktails, it probably went a lot like this:

I wonder why that lady still hasn't ratted me out yet?
Oh shit they got me on video?
That's not my phone!
I wonder who's phone that is?
Fuck - I didn't even think about DNA on the stuff I got at Starbucks.
Man I am so screwed !!
On second thought - I still haven't heard any sirens outside the house.
...uhm, I wonder why the cops aren't here yet ?!?!?
...uhm, I reckon I should just lay low and see how this all plays out.

Fuck Fuck Fuck fuck Fuck

Oh look 'Ridiculousness' is on MTV

Or who knows - we might find out his real name is David Webb.
