Syria Thread

Yes, I do remember that. I also remember this little thing called the OPLAN for the invasion of Iraq back in ~2003, when our NATO ally Turkey wouldn't let us traverse their territory to invade from the north.

I'm not mad; national interests are gonna natural interest, and whatever we were offering Turkey, they wanted more and we weren't willing to give it to them. But yeah, I still remember.
Seems like as good time as any for this reminder: Fuck Turkey...and Pakistan too.

But an Assadist stable Syria is still way more in our interests than the alternative. Nice to see Biden continuing Obama era stupidity.

Yup. If we wanted a non-Assad led Syria, that chance occurred back in 2013 with the "red line" of chemical weapons being crossed.

Assad is basically the Gaddafi of the 2010s/2020s now; a shithead, but enough of a strongman to keep the powder keg in his country from exploding out.

War in the ME isn't meant to end. It's to keep them all fighting there. I rather address mass immigration with funding from the ME. Oh, you're entire country wants to move here? Hello new US territory.

The Hayat Tahrir al-Sham leader Abu Mohammad al-Jolani is making some interesting comments regarding getting some normality into Syria, due to the mosaic of ethnicity and whatever. Is this guy legit or some ISIS pogue? The news I’ve seen have the locals very positive regarding the rebels.

Designated a terror org by Turkey, yet funded by...

Assad is done. He needs to run to Russia now if he wants to avoid getting murdered.

I think the only way he holds onto any power at all is if the West think he is more useful Alice, a la Moqtada Al Sadr.

Supposedly his plane “disappeared” from flight radar. I assume it is a smoking hole in the ground, but I’ve been wrong before.

Now we sit and see which jihad group gains the most support and how long it takes for the stream of refugees to spill out. Another Afghanistan or Libya and higher level U.S. gov't will be acting like it's no big deal.
